MANILA, Philippines – Infrastructure firm Megawide Construction Corp. is emerging as a key technology partner for the government’s flagship housing program, with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. calling for the nationwide replication of the company’s industrialized building model.
During an inspection of Megawide’s 19-hectare precast facility in Taytay, Marcos stressed that scaling up the Expanded Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino (4PH) program requires shifting from traditional construction methods to factory-based engineering.
The facility, the largest of its kind in the country, can produce walls, beams, slabs, and columns simultaneously in a controlled environment, helping reduce weather-related delays and labor dependence. It has an annual production capacity of about 168,000 cubic meters, serving as a “one-stop shop” for the structural needs of the 4PH program.
To support the initiative, the Pag-IBIG Fund has invested in Megawide preferred shares to finance over 7,000 socialized housing units in Cavite within two years.
Megawide Chairman and CEO Edgar Saavedra said the company’s integrated role as both developer and contractor allows it to deliver mass housing efficiently while maintaining quality.
Despite the completion and financing of over 423,000 housing units since 2022, the government still faces a 6.5-million-unit backlog. Megawide’s precast technology is seen as a solution to key bottlenecks, including right-of-way constraints and slow procurement.
Pag-IBIG CEO Marilene Acosta said the facility marks a major step toward modernizing the country’s socialized housing system without compromising safety and structural integrity. #END
