Jaymark, a fourth-year Hospitality Management (HRM) student, continues to pursue his dream of graduating despite facing financial struggles and personal challenges.

After losing both of his parents, Jaymark took responsibility for supporting his own education and daily expenses. Aside from studying during weekdays, he works as a construction worker every weekend to earn money for his school needs.
Recently, Jaymark applied for the ₱20,000 educational assistance under the Bagong Pilipinas Barangay Scholars component of the Bawat Barangay Makikinabang Program. However, he was not among the five students selected in his barangay.
Jaymark became emotional while sharing his disappointment, saying the assistance would have helped him prepare for his upcoming on-the-job training (OJT), which requires additional expenses for transportation, requirements, and other school-related needs.
Under DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2026-038, each barangay is allotted ₱100,000 for five scholars, with each beneficiary receiving ₱20,000 as a “Finisher Fund.” The program is intended to assist incoming fourth-year college students from vulnerable households who are at risk of not completing their studies.
Because the program has limited slots, not all students experiencing financial difficulties can be accommodated.
Despite not being selected, Jaymark remains determined to finish his degree. He continues to balance his studies and weekend work, proving that perseverance and dedication can help overcome even the toughest challenges.
For Jaymark, graduation is more than receiving a diploma—it is a symbol of his sacrifices, hard work, and commitment to building a better future. #
