MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has directed the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) to set aside ₱200 million to ₱300 million to address transmission lines of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) that limit operations at the Bicol International Airport (BIA).
Transportation Secretary Giovanni “Banoy” Lopez said the move follows President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to maximize BIA’s operations.
While the airport has a 2,500-meter runway, only 1,900 to 2,000 meters are currently usable due to the obstruction.
Lopez emphasized that resolving the issue will allow full jet operations, potentially lowering airfare and enabling international flights by year-end.
A memorandum of agreement between DOTr, CAAP, and NGCP has already been signed to implement the project. #END
