MANILA — Passengers of MRT-3 and LRT-2 will receive a 50 percent fare discount beginning Monday, March 23, as the government moves to ease the burden of rising fuel and commodity prices.
The fare reduction comes amid price increases linked to tensions in the Middle East, including the reported blockade by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz, a key passage that carries about 20 percent of the world’s oil supply.
Earlier this week, the government also rolled out P5,000 cash assistance for public utility vehicle drivers to help offset the impact of recent double-digit fuel price hikes. #
