Bam Aquino has filed a bill seeking to expand government assistance to the elderly by widening coverage under the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010.
Under Senate Bill No. 269, Aquino proposes a ₱1,000 monthly social pension for senior citizens who are not receiving any pension or whose current pension is below ₱3,000.
The measure aims to provide elderly Filipinos with a stable source of income for daily needs such as food, medicine, utilities, transportation, and other basic expenses, including medical costs.
Aquino said a regular pension would help reduce stress among senior citizens, improve their well-being, and ease the financial burden on families supporting elderly members.
He added that the proposal also recognizes the contributions of senior citizens and seeks to ensure they are properly supported in their later years.
Aquino also filed Senate Bill No. 2386, or the National Disability Support Act, which proposes a ₱2,000 monthly allowance for qualified persons with disabilities. #
