MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will construct large detention basins in Manila to serve as temporary water storage facilities aimed at speeding up floodwater drainage in low-lying areas.

The project is expected to benefit flood-prone locations including Taft Avenue, Kalaw, P. Burgos, Roxas Boulevard, Remedios, and Malate.

Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed the agency to develop long-term solutions to recurring flooding in Metro Manila, particularly through infrastructure that will improve drainage capacity and floodwater management.

The initiative aims to reduce flood duration along major roads in the capital. #
