ALFONSO, Cavite — Residents of a community in Alfonso have sought government intervention over the persistent foul odor they say is coming from an area where pigs are being raised.
During a discussion on a public affairs program in DWIZ, a resident identified as Jacqueline said the odor has been a recurring concern, particularly during hot weather and rainy periods.
She said the issue had previously been reported to barangay officials but that residents had yet to see a satisfactory resolution. Jacqueline, who said she and her family purchased property in the area in 2016, clarified that they are not originally from Alfonso.
She said her husband, an Australian national, was among those who initially raised concerns about the smell after noticing it during their visits to the property.
She stressed that their complaint is not aimed at stopping residents from raising pigs, which she acknowledged as a source of livelihood. Their primary concern, she said, is the persistent odor and its possible impact on nearby residents and visitors.
The program sought legal advice from Atty. Patrick Montemayor, OIC District Public Attorney, who advised the residents to seek assistance from the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) in Alfonso and explore appropriate administrative or legal remedies if the nuisance continues.
The discussion also highlighted the difficulty of documenting odor complaints through video, prompting a call for concerned government agencies and local officials to personally inspect the area, including during the times when residents say the odor is most noticeable.
Residents were encouraged to formally document their complaints and coordinate with the barangay, local government, and appropriate agencies for assessment and possible action. #
