MANILA, Philippines — A male student died after allegedly falling from the Fernando Poe Jr. Station of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) on Wednesday morning, February 11.

Witness Maria Theresa Vijar, a barker in the area, said she initially thought an object or piece of clothing had been thrown from the station, only to realize it was a person. Authorities later identified the victim as a student based on his identification card.

The victim’s father was seen kneeling in grief after confirming his son’s death, while his mother, reportedly a lawyer, fainted upon arriving at the scene.

According to the father, his son was a graduating student with no academic problems.

“Graduating na siya ngayon. Wala siyang problema sa grades. Kausap ko pa siya kanina at siya pa ang nagbukas ng gate sa akin,” he said.

The LRT-1 management and local authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. As of this writing, no official report has been released on how the fall occurred.  #
