DAVAO CITY — The Davao City government is pushing for the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and humanoid robots into local government services as part of its vision to become the country’s leading hub for digital innovation.
During the regular session of the Davao City Council on June 2, representatives from East West International Education Specialist Inc. (EWIES) showcased two AI-powered humanoid robots. City councilors interacted with the robots by asking questions and engaging in conversations to assess their capabilities and potential applications in government operations.
According to officials, the city may begin deploying AI robots in various government offices as early as next year. The initiative aims to speed up transactions, reduce long queues, improve access to information, and enhance the overall delivery of public services.
Authorities emphasized that the project is not intended to replace government employees. Instead, the AI robots are expected to serve as support tools that can help streamline operations, allowing personnel to focus on more critical tasks and responsibilities.
If approved, the technology could be utilized in areas such as public safety, disaster response, information services, and other modernization programs designed to improve efficiency and governance in the city.
The proposal is currently undergoing evaluation by relevant committees and remains subject to funding approval before implementation. #
