MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Monday announced that the administration is proposing a ₱197.3-billion allocation for rail infrastructure under the 2027 National Expenditure Program (NEP), as part of its long-term transport modernization agenda.
According to the Palace, the funding aims to accelerate the development and completion of major railway projects, with particular focus on the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) System, which is expected to significantly improve mobility across key regions.
The NSCR is designed to ease the daily burden of commuters by reducing travel time and providing a more efficient rail connection between major urban and provincial areas. It is also seen as a key driver of economic activity through improved logistics and workforce mobility.
The proposed budget also supports the broader expansion of the country’s rail network, which includes ongoing and planned projects under the government’s infrastructure program to modernize public transportation.
Malacañang emphasized that strengthening rail infrastructure is a strategic investment aimed at addressing long-standing traffic congestion, enhancing connectivity, and boosting national productivity.
The 2027 NEP forms part of the administration’s continuing efforts to build a more integrated and efficient transport system across the country.
