BATANGAS, Philippines — The Board of Investments (BOI) has approved the registration of SteelAsia Lemery Works, Inc. (SLWI) for its ₱19.82-billion steel manufacturing facility in Lemery, Batangas.
The 72-hectare project is set to become the country’s first plant dedicated to producing medium steel sections, with operations targeted to begin in January 2027.
The facility will manufacture key structural materials such as H-beams and I-beams, widely used in infrastructure and construction, which are currently largely imported. It is designed to produce up to 500,000 metric tons annually and generate more than 600 jobs within its early years.
BOI said the project is expected to contribute significantly to the economy through increased local production, job creation, and reduced reliance on imported steel.
The plant will utilize electric arc furnace (EAF) technology and operate on 100% renewable energy using recyclable steel scrap.
SteelAsia Chairman and CEO Benjamin O. Yao said the investment aims to strengthen domestic supply, support small and medium enterprises, and help narrow the country’s trade gap. #
