On August 3, 2026 at around 10:50 AM, the CIDG Cavite Provincial Field Unit together Bureau of Customs (BOC), Cavite Police Provincial Office, Cavite Maritime Group, and the Philippine Coast Guard conducted a law enforcement operation against violations of Republic Act No. 10863 (Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA), Republic Act No. 7394 (Consumer Act of the Philippines), and Republic Act No. 8293 (Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines) at a warehouse in Barangay Alapan II-A, Imus City, Cavite that resulted in the confiscation of alleged smuggled, substandard and counterfeit/trademark infringing footwear – with brand names Adidas, On Cloud, New Balance, ASICS, Crocs, Nike, Puma, Converse, Skechers, and Louis Vuitton—with an estimated value of PhP700,000,000.00.
A report that reached PMGEN Robert AA Morico II, the Director of CIDG, stated that acting on the intelligence and report on alleged smuggled footwear, the CIDG Cavite coordinated with the Bureau of Customs for law enforcement operation. Subsequently, the Bureau of Customs issued a Letter of Authority (LOA) and Mission Order authorizing the joint agencies to inspect, visit, search, and seize goods that violate the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
The CIDG Director emphasized that pursuant to Republic Act No. 10863 (Customs Modernization and Tariff Act), the State is committed to modernizing and streamlining customs and tariff administration to enhance revenue collection, facilitate legitimate trade, prevent and suppress smuggling and other customs fraud, and promote efficiency, transparency, and integrity in customs service.
Smuggled products bypass the Bureau of Customs entirely, preventing the collection of standard import duties thereby depriving the government of legitimate revenue and creating unfair competition for law-abiding businesses. Smuggled footwear reduces domestic business taxes, hurts local shoe makers, and drains public funds.
The CIDG leadership commends PCOL Ganaban C Ali, the Regional Chief of the CIDG Regional Field Unit 4A, and the CIDG Cavite Provincial Field Unit Unit headed by its Provincial Chief, PLTCOL Mark Jason M Gatdula; and Bureau of Customs (BOC) and joint operating agencies and PNP units for the very remarkable accomplishment, that underscores the CIDG’s unyielding stance against all forms of illegal activities and violations of law.
The CIDG assures the public that it is resolute in enforcing customs and tariff law in full support to the government’s war against smuggling and economic sabotage across the country. The CIDG urges the public to report all suspicious warehouses; and illegal activities in their localities, and the CIDG will do the rest.
