MANILA — The Philippines is emerging as one of the world’s leading adopters of artificial intelligence (AI) in the workplace, according to Microsoft’s latest Work Trend Index Annual Report.
During a media briefing on Aug. 7, Microsoft Philippines Communications Head Josh Aquino said the country’s challenge is no longer AI adoption but organizational readiness to maximize the technology’s potential.
The report found that 25% of Filipino AI users belong to the “Frontier Professionals” category—advanced users who integrate AI into complex workflows—significantly higher than the global average of 16%.
The study also showed that Filipino workers place strong emphasis on critical thinking, with 65% identifying it as the most important human skill in the age of AI. Meanwhile, 93% of respondents said they treat AI-generated outputs as a starting point rather than a final answer.
Aquino said the findings demonstrate that the Philippines is not merely catching up but is ahead of many countries in meaningful AI adoption, while continuing to value human judgment and decision-making. #RBM
