MANILA — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. urged Filipinos to use artificial intelligence (AI) wisely, responsibly and ethically as the government launched eGov AI, a new AI-powered feature of the eGovPH Super App, on September 21 at The Manila Hotel.
In a message delivered by Cabinet Secretary Benhur Abalos, Marcos said AI should serve as a tool to help people make informed decisions, rather than replace human judgment. He emphasized the importance of continuing to question, assess and decide independently while using AI.
The President also stressed that AI development and adoption should be guided by accountability, security and public service as the technology becomes increasingly relevant to education, employment, business and everyday activities.
MAKING AI MORE ACCESSIBLE
Marcos said the government must work to make AI more accessible, particularly to Filipinos and businesses that face limitations in technology, skills and connectivity.
He cited a 2024 study showing that only 14.9 percent of firms in the Philippines use AI tools, with adoption largely concentrated among larger technology-related companies in urban areas. He said these gaps highlight the need to expand access to innovation and improve digital skills.
eGOV AI FEATURES
Developed by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), eGov AI includes “Kuya A,” an AI assistant that provides real-time guidance to verified eGovPH users seeking government services online.
The platform offers tools for document extraction, image identification, translation, form understanding and speech generation. It also provides access to information on tourism, laws, government policies and guidelines.
The system includes electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) for identity verification and advanced liveness checks designed to strengthen protection against fraud and unauthorized access. Its real-time translation capability is also intended to help reduce language barriers in digital government transactions.
The launch also featured the recognition of the Top 30 teams in the eGovPH Hackathon 2026, which developed digital solutions supporting the government’s digital transformation efforts.
Marcos said technology initiatives should ultimately serve the public interest and expand opportunities for Filipinos. He also called for responsible AI use so that technological progress remains inclusive and does not leave people behind.
