MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has deployed mobile pumps and L-shaped barriers along the NLEX San Simon section in Pampanga to mitigate flooding and ease traffic.
MMDA Chairman Don Artes said the move aims to address gridlock caused by impassable flooded areas. General Manager Nicolas Torre III added that mobile units can pump up to one cubic meter of water per second.
Sandbags and barriers were also installed in critical sections, while NLEX Corporation deployed flood control measures at the interchange.
Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon attributed the flooding to heavy rains brought by the enhanced southwest monsoon.
Some lanes have reopened to traffic, but portions of the expressway remain impassable as flood mitigation operations continue.
