MANILA, Philippines — Manuel “Tatay Maning” Tagle Sr., father of Filipino Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2026, the Archdiocese of Manila confirmed.
In a social media post, the archdiocese expressed “profound sadness” over his passing and called on the faithful to offer prayers for the repose of his soul, as well as for strength and comfort for his grieving family.
Cardinal Tagle, also known as “Chito,” is currently based in the Vatican, where he serves as Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization. He is also the Grand Chancellor of the Pontifical Urbaniana University and the Archbishop Emeritus of Manila. #
