Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla has urged schools and parents to teach children how to properly use the Unified 911 emergency hotline, stressing the importance of immediate access to emergency assistance during crises.
Remulla said the nationwide 911 system is fully operational and has proven effective in delivering rapid emergency response, citing a June 22 shooting incident at San Jose National High School as an example.
He noted that in the incident, a teacher was able to call 911 within one minute, while responders from the Bureau of Fire Protection arrived at the scene in about four minutes.
Remulla also said the Unified 911 system has improved coordination among government response agencies, enabling faster action during emergencies, including school-related incidents.
He added that the government will continue working with the Department of Education to strengthen school safety protocols and disaster preparedness across the country. #
