MANILA, Philippines — Jonvic Remulla, Secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), has proposed lowering the age limit for Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) candidates to 15 to 19 years old.
Remulla said the proposed age range would better ensure that elected SK officials truly represent the youth sector. He noted that under the current 18–29 age bracket, some officials may already have jobs or families, particularly those nearing 30.
He also pointed out the gap between SK and other elective positions, where the minimum age to run for governor is 23.
The DILG chief further suggested reviewing the fiscal autonomy of the SK to strengthen the capacity of young leaders in managing public funds. #
