CAVITE, Philippines — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is proposing a possible restructuring of the country’s regional setup, which could significantly affect the current composition of the CALABARZON and MIMAROPA regions.
Under the proposal, provinces may be grouped under different command centers to improve government coordination and speed up the delivery of public services. One possible arrangement could place Cavite and Palawan in the same regional group, while Batangas and Mindoro, Laguna and Rizal, and Quezon, Marinduque, and Romblon could form separate groupings. The latter may potentially be called “QUEMARO.”
According to DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla, the proposed restructuring aims to make governance more practical and efficient, particularly in terms of accessibility and faster response to the needs of provinces.
However, the proposal remains under consideration and will still undergo further study and evaluation before any changes are implemented. #
