INDANG, Cavite — The Cavite State University (CvSU) has successfully implemented solar power systems in its main campus in Indang and 13 other satellite campuses across the province through a public-private partnership (PPP) arrangement.
Under the project, the private sector financed and installed the solar energy facilities, allowing the university and government to avoid direct capital expenditures.
CvSU President Maria Agnes Nuestro led the formal commissioning of the solar power system, attended by key stakeholders, including Presidential Adviser on Poverty Alleviation Larry Gadon and other officials.
University officials said the initiative is expected to generate significant cost savings, potentially reducing millions of pesos in annual electricity expenses. The savings may be redirected toward improving campus facilities, research programs, and other academic services for students.
Beyond cost reduction, CvSU also sees opportunities for additional revenue through net metering, where excess electricity generated is fed back into the power grid. The system may also qualify for carbon credits, aligning with global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
CvSU emphasized that the project supports the Philippines’ renewable energy transition agenda and helps reduce the university’s carbon footprint amid ongoing climate change challenges.
Officials added that the initiative could serve as a model for other state universities and higher education institutions seeking sustainable and cost-efficient energy solutions. #
