Boac, Marinduque – in celebration of the Tourism Month this September, the Marinduque Provincial Tourism Council (MPTC) in partnership with the Marinduque Provincial Government and the Department of Tourism (DOT) Mimaropa would be mounting the first-ever Marinduque Tourism Summit by September 24-25. This event have the theme, “Bridging Gaps in Marinduque Tourism Industry Development.”
SPARK development concerns in tourism industry would be the central objective with a program that aims to materialize the goal of making Marinduque a destination of choice in 2030. By unraveling the gaps in Marinduque provincial tourism industry development and alignment with the national and regional industry with the tourism stakeholders, government agencies, business leaders, educational institutions, and community partners, it hopes to promote sustainable tourism, strengthen partnerships for sustainable development.
On day 1, the DOT Mimaropa regional director would be discussing the Gaps and Challenges toward Marinduque as Destination of choice in 2030. With the legislative support of the Marinduque provincial committee, Tourism Development and Cultural Heritage and the Marinduque Provincial Tourism Council. The Marinduque Governor Melecio Go would have words of welcome while the provincial tourism and development consultant Danilo Intong would explain the mechanics of the summit. Then the president of the Philippine Tour Operators Association (PHILTOA) would elaborate on developing SPARK by bridging the gaps. There would also be panel discussion led by Mam Juliepearl Brion with the DOT, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), PhilTOA, Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) and the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB).
By day 2, there would be a continuation of the panel discussion with Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT), Maritime Industry Authority (Marina), Department of Social Work and Development (DSWD) and Department of Energy (DOE) along with Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
In addition to the summit, there would be the first sustainable tourism appreciation and recognition awards (STAR) by September 25 for the following categories: Sustainable Municipality on Actionable Responsible Tourism, Outstanding tourism officer, Outstanding Marinduque community guide, DOT-accredited Local Tour Operator, Award for excellence in Hostelry, Outstanding Tourism Related Enterprise, Special Award for Exemplary Deed to Guest and Tourist,
To cap off the event, there would also be an exhibit, “Inukit na Pamana, Nililok ng Pananampalataya” featuring local artists and crartspersons including Ella Mazon, James Liwanagan, Salvador Liwanagan, Gilbert Monsanto and Eric Morales. The event runs from September 24 to October 16 in celebration of Philippine Creative Industries Month during September and Museums & galleries month every October. #
